Since my Monday morning flight was cxl'd, i worked from home in my undies. Around lunch, i went out to reshovel the walk and the path i'd shoveled to the street and the cold almost killed me! About 2:45, i got a text from the airline that i'd been cancelled on Tuesday morning too. So i called and got someone about 3 and asked if, by any chance, there was anything leaving that evening. "Well, if you want, there's a seat on the 4:30 that's delayed until 5..." Panic, indecision then..."I'LL TAKE IT!" Jumped into my clothes and got our friend to drive me and made it. i rule. A long day and about 9pm was settling in. Time to get back to work.
Express Scripts forced me to change to a different kind of glop that is stickier and has wasteful package. The other side effect is that two women - one at my hotel and another at the sandwich shop - say they love the way i smell (i don't use colognes, after all). One of them said i smelled "like babies". One of the desk clerks - the gay one - said it was particularly appealing. So there's that...
"...Will you still have a song to sing When the razor boy comes and take your fancy things away? Will you still be singing it On that cold and windy day?" #songsthatmakemecry / coffee and contemplation
Bearaoke: Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire". Frank Sinatra's "That's Life" has kind of a bump-n-grind stripper vibe goin' on the bridge, doncha think? couldn't decide on the last song so DJ's Choice: dance floor fascism one-hit-wonder from the 80s "Politics Of Dancing" by Re-Flex (photo by @kiwi1959)
i managed to get my pool time in this week...it was much needed. Matt found this yellow suit at the veterans thrift store. They're not baggy board shorts, but still more soggy fabric than i'm used to. i like the color though.
"...the morning sun, when it's in your face, really shows your age..."
breakfast options are rather limited here on the new C-Concourse, so i tried bringing my own. wasn't sure if a fruit cup or a baggie full of cottage cheese would pass, but i'm eating good. / work function: bowling, beer & pretzels. two outta three ain't bad... / picked up extra on Wednesday...was having company for dinner
@swellfella was in town and wanted the full woofer experience. Chinese takeout and sippycups of cheap red wine...what a life.
"Transtlanticism" / "...and i am finally seeing..." - my iPod knows all the songs that make me cry and is playing them back to punish me for my sins
#mediawhore - you can see a bunch of pics you've already seen here and read my silly answers to questions you've already heard before in the latest issue of "BearWorld", an online magazine you can find here.
flying / home / out
the lesbian next door needed some gay gardening intervention. We may need her to fix our car one of these days. ;-)
good lighting on Saturday night / lost in the supermarket / i've been going to Karaoke on Sunday nights at JJ's. The timing is right - it starts at 7 so i can still get to bed at a decent hour - its not crowded and its all my friends.
a response to the bombings in Boston on Monday
Monday had started rough and Tuesday was a long day as well. Fortunately, my friends at the local chinese restaurant know my voice, so when i left the office, i called and said "i'm hungry..." and they had my usual fried dumplings and house special lo mein ready when i showed up about 10 minutes later.
Swimming wasn't much more successful. The pool was chilly so i tried the hottub, but the jets weren't working. i guess if i wanted bubbles, i'd best start farting. ;0)
"the checks're in the mail" - MO, DE, NJ & the City of STL. i even used Xmas stamps! (i get a few bucks back from the Fed) Actually, i consider myself fortunate to have a job that allows me to support my family and be able to pay my fair share.
Sunday was such a nice day (and i needed an excuse not to concentrate on work and get away from my computer) that we went to Lowe's and spent too much on flowers for the flower beds.
It's nice to have another use for my kneepads. ;-)
Bearaoke was fun and i wound up doing a '60s set by default. Bobby Hebb's 1966 one-hit-wonder classic, "Sunny"; "THIS is Tom...JONES!" theme "It's Not Unusual" and Shirley Bassey's classic, "Goldfinger". Fun times.
i had a rough week this week. i hate when i fall into these funks, but it happens far too often. And i felt bad that i've let my LJ go in favor of other venues...which have proven disappointing and unwieldy.
MEN. Just when you think they're there for good...they disappear.
Fortunately, i was expected to drink a lot on the corporate tit...two out of the three nights!
Getting home was a challenge...a couple hours late...but home nonetheless.
soaring with the eagles on a light-traffic Monday morning; chilly in Philly
#bearfotofeb - 02/18 - #underpressure (no fun); 02/19 - #supermodel / #youbetterwork - join in my conference call, conference call, conference call...
[NOTE: the conference call pics are not photoshopped...i used photos in the monitors and repeated 3 times.]
#monochromemonday; a day later, after a long, 13+-hour day, i needed this...and my Spider-Man sippycup of cheap Aussie merlot
when i got the cheap seat to Spider-Man on Broadway, they serve your cocktails in pricey sippycups so you don't spill all over the theatre. perfect for swimming pools! i save the fancy glassware for dining out on business.
#bearfotofeb - 02/14 - "#theperfectkiss is the kiss of death"
mimosas...not just for Sundays anymore; "...shoes...shoes...shoes... OMG! (work) shoes...."
w/SIR @ the Underwear Store; SOMEbody had a hankerin' for popcorn...fortunately, the drugstore had some

my acquisitions from yesterday's trip to the underwear store; #bearfotofeb - 02/15 - the kids are not impressed by #theemperorsnewclothes and exposed him for the fraud that he is
#bearfotofeb - 02/12 - #badromance - i was going to give you my heart, but then i saw it was a jelly doughnut so i eated it :-(
#bearfotofeb - 02/13 - i lost my #faith in gods and the men who created them...i often feel bad that i have such low expectations of people...and even worse when they meet them
Tuesday was Cards Against Humanity...wicked fun.
water water water
Meet me above Manhattan.

i can never remember anything...lost in the butter aisle. #bearfotofeb - 02/10 - #karaoke night - he's out of #control
#bearfotofeb - 02/11 - there is no #computerlove between Apple and myself. (you'll notice that #bearfotofeb is all song titles.)
Last Thursday, i had my interview for the Global Entry program. It is ostensibly a Customs initiative to funnel citizens who frequently travel out of the country through the system a little quicker, but TSA has jumped on-board and used it to get people for the TSA-PreChek program which lets you go through the "express lane" without having to take off your shoes or unpack your laptop. They took my photo and electronic fingerprints (NO INK!!) to go with all of the other info that that they had on me. Considering i held a security clearance for 22 years, they only had to go back so far i would think. That and $100 (which my AMEX card refunded!) got me my first "three beeps" on Monday morning. The joy was short-lived as i was selected by the metal detector for random screening though, to be honest, it was just a swipe and i had i needed to put my shoes back on, i would have barely had time. No matter, it'll work out just fine.
And now...an irresistably cute picture of the kids being lazy this past Sunday.
Spent Saturday with Jake and Tom and then Sunday on my own.
( Saturday morning to Sunday night...cut for length...SFWCollapse )
Since i was so close, i decided to slip into NYC for the weekend to see friends old and new.
It just so happened to be the 100th Birthday of Grand Central Station. i was spending the evening with Kurt Jo and we went by to see the fun.
They had a big band orchestra and a lot of people were dancing so i grabbed Kurt and away we went. At least i let him lead! LOL! We had dinner down below. What a wonderful evening.
i've finally gotten myself another mini-Lumix to add to my collection. The last one was just a little too big to slide into my pocket (or other small cavity) so i've been getting lazy and using the iPhone which sucks. (yeah, it's an 'old' i4, quit hatin' as the kids say).
The Lumix pix - above - are just so much clearer than the iPhone - below. Better for LJ, too! As for the Dodge Dart that is the subject of these pics, even though it's based on Alfa Romeo underpinnings (the Giulietta), it isn't that great. Granted, this is a stripper rental, but still...
Some recent entries for #bearphotoaday; 01/17 - sooner or later, we all have to deal with our inner #grump.
01/14 - #meatballs - "[i was a] C.I.T. so pitious...the kids [were] brats, the food..."; 01/15 - #free (or at greatly reduced prices!); 01/15 - someone had to do the dirty jobs because freedom isn't #free (along the road to Sarajevo) - the Italians seemed to take issue with this shot...about 4 of them across all all platforms. They don't care for US foreign policy, it seems. Fuck 'em.
01/19 - the #lowly woofer; 01/20 - #phobia; 01/21 - "i don't sleep, i #dream
01/23 - this damn phone will be the #instrument of my destruction. (#iPhoningitin) [that means i got lazy]; 01/24 - nope, no #beercan...that's a summer camping thing; 01/25 (late) - "#Growl! RAWR even...";
01/26 - the ensuing 22 years have faded the #scar, but that slice was 5" deep & 6" long; 57 sutures & 36 staples. A big mirror fell in my apartment in LA back in 1990 (or '91). When i went to move the big oak frame, it had jammed in the door and pulling it loose dislodged a 2 foot shard of glass that sliced into my leg then fell to the floor. It looked like a murder...lots of blood. 01/27 - sometimes when i'm on the road i like to #pamper myself with a fine vintage...a nice wine, absurd yet flaccid. LOL; 01/28 - my teal Speedo is very #tight, but my Golden Bear suit is quite the weenie-hugger as well!
Just like last week, i had to fly out on Sunday for an early Monday start. Unlike last week, i had to get an early start and change planes to fly into EWR. *ugh* A wasted day. As usual, TSA decided there was too much crap in my rucksack. i seriously need to decontent my pack. Do i really need to carry all this stuff? i tried to cut back when i got a new pack over the holidays, but i couldn't bear to leave any of it behind. i need to learn to let go.
Saturday was the St Louis Auto Show which really wasn't much of a show, rather a big auto mall. No concepts, not even the hot new models.
But the new Beetle Cabrio ($33k!!) and the Fiat were cute. No new car for woofer. Then again, we got to hang out w/ Mike & Glen/gearjock & buzzedoff, so that was cool.
